I love people! I believe that we are each other’s greatest asset. With “advisor” as the meaning of Monica, it is no wonder I have spent the last 30 years of my life in service to others. In those years I have provided a compassionate, empathetic, and attending presence to individuals from a wide range of socio-economic, religious, cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds from various therapeutic, community, faith-based, and hospital settings. With cultural humility as my underpinning, I have been privileged to walk with individuals, couples, and families in their most vulnerable moments.
I stand firm on the belief that self-care is self-love, not selfish! That is why I joined the mental health field. My practice is designed to provide therapeutic support to clients with a myriad of mental health and emotional concerns including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. My training and lived experience have garnered me success with clients experiencing stress responses related to trauma, grief, relationship (interpersonal and intimate) breakdown, divorce, family conflict, and existential crisis. I also have experience supporting clients with eating disorders. I am particularly skilled in working with marginalized populations and communities of color and am trained to work with couples and survivors of intimate partner violence and clients with eating disorders. I am an active listener who invites clients to identify and utilize their own strengths on their path to healing and wellness. I work in collaboration with clients to provide therapeutic interventions that align with their values and goals. Simply put, I care.
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and two graduate degrees including a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco. I have also earned a certificate of completion for Domestic Violence Advocate Training from Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments.
I enjoy spending time with my children and those I love, laughing and making others laugh, music and singing, theater, roller skating, dancing, and, when time permits, doing absolutely nothing! I navigate life on my core values: honesty, integrity, justice, kindness, and grace.
